Bouygues Construction and software developer Dassault Systèmes have announced a long-term partnership, with the intention of broadening and accelerating the digitalisation of the construction process.

Initially, Bouygues says it will use Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform within its residential construction projects. The system offers a common data environment for all stakeholders on a project to collaborate, integrating diverse and disparate project disciplines and professionals within a single model-based method of working.

A longer-term strategy is for the two companies to utilise digital technology to enhance health and safety on jobsites and aid the development of sustainable construction practices.

Dassault also plans to introduce the use of virtual twins more generally into construction, while Bouygues aims to make greater use of modular assembly components – particular in the construction of retirement homes and student residences – in an effort to reduce waste and improve productivity.

Philippe Bonnave, chairman and CEO of Bouygues Construction, said, “Bouygues Construction has been using digital technologies for years and we consider that we could make still more use of them and create more value. We are therefore looking for a higher-level transformation which will impact our processes in all our projects and prepare the future of the company.”

Bernard Charlès, vice chairman and CEO of Dassault Systèmes, said, “Experiencing the virtual twin of construction is an inclusive and – thanks to cloud and mobility – affordable process. Unlike existing legacy methods, the virtual twin experience allows everyone involved to understand and contribute to the process.

“This game-changing approach, based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, fuels our long-term partnership with Bouygues Construction. It represents a tremendous opportunity to combine our respective leadership and expertise and to introduce a new dynamic into the construction ecosystem that pushes it toward greater sustainability.”
