Bouygues wins €181 million Grand Paris project

Bouygues Construction has been selected to build a €181 million operations centre on the Grand Paris Express rail network.

A joint venture (JV) between the French contractor’s subsidiaries, Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France Ouvrages Publics and Brézillon, will construct the facility, set to control multiple functions on lines 16 and 17 of the network.

In total, the JV will construct 11 buildings for the centre, which will include: the central control room, which will monitor and control train movements; a maintenance and sidings site, for the parking, maintenance and overhaul of rolling stock; and an infrastructure maintenance site.

Work will commence this summer, with completion expected 32 months after breaking ground.

Bouygues says the buildings will require the installation of 5,400 tonnes of structural steelwork, which is being designed by the Groupe-6 architecture firm and Setec consulting engineers.

Some of the buildings, says Bouygues, will have “extraordinary dimensions”, including the infrastructure maintenance centre, which will be 540m long and 23m tall.
