Dragages Hong Kong and VSL, subsidiaries of French contractor Bouygues, in a joint venture with China Harbour, have been awarded a US$1.6 billion contract to complete the first section of a bridge between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. The contract is the largest ever design-build contract awarded in Hong Kong.
The joint venture will work on a 9.4 km stretch of bridge linking International Airport Island to the boundary of Hong Kong territorial waters. This bridge will support a three-lane dual carriageway over Hong Kong's deep western waters. Work will begin in mid-2012 and is scheduled for completion in 2016.
The contract also includes electrical and mechanical engineering works, the installation of marine navigational aids, a ship impact protection system, and bridge maintenance and monitoring management systems.
