Bridge All set in a day

The bridge spanned a busy road and had to be installed before 6.00 p.m. The three parts of the new "bike and hike" Cascade Locks Bikeway bridge over SR 59 in Akron, Ohio were set using 240 US ton (218 tonne) capacity GMK5240 (GMK5200 elsewhere in the world Grove all terrains lifting in tandem.

Using two cranes instead of one larger crane allowed subtle side-to-side adjustments that saved time and effort, according to All.

The bridge is two 44 foot, 44,000 pound (13 m, 20 tonne) sections and one 180 foot, 225,000 pound (55 m 102 tonne) centre section. The GMK5240 lifted the first of the two shorter sections into place onto a concrete pier. Both cranes in tandem then set the 180 foot middle span, before one crane lifted the second shorter section at the other side.

In addition to the cranes, All Erection did the heavy hauling of the two shorter sections from main contractor Kenmore's yard to the job site.

The Bikeway, scheduled to open in August 2008, connects downtown Akron to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, the major trail through Cuyahoga Valley National Park along the historic canal route.
