South Korean contractor Tuksu has used PTC’s 240HD (Heavy Duty) pile driver during construction of a new bridge between the island of Incheon and the Korean mainland.

The 240HD is currently driving 2.4 m and 3 m diameter casings, with wall thicknesses of 19 and 22 mm respectively, to a depth of 50 m. The pile driver features four 250 tonne clamps mounted directly under the gear box, powered by the PTC 1900 (1800 hp/1343 kW) power pack. This allows it to drive or extract heavy casings up to 3.6 m diameter to depths of 60 m.
