In August German rental company BTB lifted into place a new gold plated cross on the cupola of the Berlin Dom (cathedral). BTB used an 500 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 eight axle telescopic mobile crane.

Corrosion caused irreparable damage to the cross, which was removed in December 2006. A new one was built by a metal fabricator in Bavaria. It is 15 m tall and weighs 12.5 tonnes - 1.5 kg of which is the gold foil plating applied by a specialist company in Berlin.
