Liebherr EC-H and EC-B tower cranes help prepare Sochi for the 2014 Olympic Games

Liebherr tower cranes are working on a range of projects for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.

Construction projects underway in the Olympic Village include the central stadium, skating stadium, ice hockey arena and the media centre are predominantly being carried out using Liebherr tower cranes.

Liebherr Russia has leased Liebherr top slewing cranes from the EC-H and EC-B series to a number of construction companies. Infrastructure projects such as the railway station, a shopping centre, and a bridge over the River Mzimtaare are also being constructed using Liebherr tower cranes, added the manufacturer.

Two Liebherr tower cranes from the EC-H series are working on the construction of the railway bridge. The top slewing units can achieve freestanding heights under hook of nearly 85 metres. The 550 EC-H 40 Litronic and the 200 EC‑H 10 FR.tronic are are mounted on reinforced 500 HC towers for extra stability as the region is prone to earthquakes.

The bridge will carry road and rail traffic from Sochi over the River Mzimta to the Olympic skiing events.
