Cargotec offshore knuckle jib crane for January delivery

Cargotec will deliver its first 150 tonne capacity MacGregor offshore active heave-compensated (AHC) knuckle jib crane in January 2010. It is being produced at the group's recently modernised manufacturing, assembly and testing plant for offshore load handling solutions in Singapore.

The crane will be tested at the Cargotec Marine facility prior to delivery to a customer in Asia.

Active heave compensation technology is an essential function in offshore cranes and other equipment employed on vessels or floating offshore installations doing subsea work. The Singapore location is designed to be able to deliver up to 20 large MacGregor offshore active heave compensated cranes a year.

The refurbished factory is on a 200 m waterfront site and houses 26,000 m² of modern indoor and sheltered workshop space with overhead gantry cranes up to 120 tonne capacity. Lifting duties include offshore, towing and anchor-handling winches, as well as mooring systems and the AHC offshore cranes.

The facility also offers a 19,000 m² open yard area with four test foundations for testing AHC cranes and other load handling equipment. In addition, the site has a heavy-duty crawler crane and a transporter for loading and moving large pieces of machinery. A 53 x 15 m barge provides additional mooring capacity for vessel repair and servicing.
