CARL on a gantry

25 April 2008

Specialist contractor Belding Walbridge in the US has the first Computer Assisted Remote Lifting (CARL) system on its telescopic hydraulic lifting gantries. Riggers Manufacturing Company installed the system that allows remote operation of all functions on Belding Walbridge's EZ Lifters.

Height, weight of load and distance are displayed on the remote operator station. The system constantly monitors the lift and warns of any out of level or overload conditions as well as other pre-set events. Automatic synchronisation of the lift keeps the two (or four) gantry legs at the same height at all times. Similarly, automatic synchronisation of travel keeps the gantry legs travelling at the same distance from a starting point. An operation log is kept for post-lift analysis and there is a direct wireless link to technical staff for troubleshooting.
