Igus UK has manufactured and installed new energy chains on 17 outdoor portal cranes and nine indoor magnet cranes at the Workington steel rail factory of Corus Rail. The pre-harnessed system, which comprises E4/4 heavy duty plastic energy chains, aluminium guide troughs and Chainflex cables, was designed for use in the extreme heat and corrosive conditions found in the steel mill, which is near the sea. Similar systems installed previously at the mill have been maintenance-free, requiring only visual inspections.
