Barneveld Crane Rental Ltd., (BKV) has ordered two Terex Challenger 3160 all terrains cranes.

According to the Netherlands-based company the rental rates for the 160 tonne-metre rated Challenger 3160 are very good, with fuel consumption being relatively low.

Albert Deij, BKV technical services, said the Challenger would be used instead of larger cranes in some cases.

Henry Deij, BKV jobsite planning, added, "Because of its 50 m long boom, we can even use our Challengers for maintenance on smaller scale wind turbines. Compact size, lifting capabilities and long boom means we have access to jobs that were not possible before. Due to increasing road travel restrictions, its ability to travel within 12 tonne axle load limitations is another benefit that counts a lot for us already."

The Terex Challenger 3160 is the only 3-axle crane with a 55 tonne lifting capacity designed with one-person operation in mind, said the manufacturer. With a 50 m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes, when working at a 4m radius, the Terex Challenger 3160 can be operated indepndently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes.
