The Houston Business Journal has named Cherry's Joel Gutierrez as the 2011 Best Chief Financial Officer of the Year in the Emerging Private Company category.

He joined Cherry as CFO in 2003 and is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University.

The Journal made the award to Joel to recognise his efforts in initiating financial measures to help Cherry lower debt, improve its profit margins and take advantage of some US$2 million (Euro 1.4 million) in state grants for investment in equipment with lower air emissions.

He also upgraded the company's accounting software and hardware for better performance, in the process creating enhanced accounting systems for nine new company divisions, in addition to upgraded and uniform budget processes.
