Creating safer crane and rigging operations in the state of Florida, USA, is the goal of the Florida Crane Safety Alliance (FCSA).

The FCSA is a new alliance of members of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida, South Florida Associated General Contractors of America, the Construction Association of South Florida, and the Florida Crane Owners Association and the Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Tampa OSHA area offices.

Among the first efforts of the alliance is to implement a Crane Safety Stand-down, which is a meeting implemented by companies to educate their staff on crane and rigging safety awareness. The first annual Crane Safety Stand-down will be held on November 4, 2009.

The FCSA plans to provide tips on creating a Safety Stand-down and will offer companies best practice ideas for raising crane and rigging safety awareness.

Coming next from the FCSA is Rigging Awareness 101, the first of a four part educational series. The eight hour course will give participants the necessary safety knowledge they need to work safely around cranes and rigging.
