Cranes bolster Liebherr

Turnover for the Liebherr Group in 2009 was down 16.9% on the previous year to € 6.9 billion.

While most divisions recorded a drop in turnover, the maritime crane division was up 7.3% to € 674 million.

The mobile crane division reported a relatively modest drop of 7.2%, to € 1.77 billion, compared with the drop from all construction machinery of 27% to € 4 billion.

By region, Liebherr Group turnover for 2009 was up 42% in the near and Middle East to € 585 million.

In Western Europe, however, it was down 20% (€ 943 million) to € 3.69 billion and, in Eastern Europe by40% to € 345 million.

The manufacturer maintained its workforce at around 32,000 people at 2009 year end and at the end of the previous year.
