Crossrail chief to speak at Bentley conference

The CEO of Europe’s largest construction project, London’s Crossrail, the chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority for London 2012, and the chief construction adviser to the UK government are among the speakers at the Year in Infrastructure 2013 conference.
Organised annually by infrastructure software company Bentley Systems, the conference is being held in London this year, from 29 to 31 October. It is open to all management-level executives in architectural, engineering and construction firms, owner-operators, and government organisations responsible for the design, delivery, or operations of infrastructure.
Bentley has also revealed the finalists in its annual Be Inspired Awards programme for outstanding achievement in infrastructure design, delivery and operation.
The Year in Infrastructure 2013 guest keynote speakers include Andrew Wolstenholme, CEO of Crossrail; Sir John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority for London 2012 and chairman of National Express; Peter Hansford, chief construction adviser to the UK government; and Pedro Miranda, corporate vice president of Siemens.
The conference will also feature industry-specific breakout sessions on buildings, rail and transit, project delivery, power delivery and asset performance management.
The Be Inspired Awards finalists for 2013 include, in the Innovation in Construction category, the Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi International Airport, United Arab Emirates; Alberta Oil Sands, Alberta, Canada; and the Gorgon Project, Barrow Island, Australia.
Innovation in Bridges finalists are the Rawson Avenue Interchange reconstruction, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US; the Mokpo cable-stayed bridge, Mokpo, South Korea; and the Corgo River Valley viaduct, Vila Real, Portugal.
Innovation in Building finalists are the China Communications Construction Company Southern Headquarters, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China; the Perot Museum of Nature & Science, Dallas, Texas, US; and the Cancer Treatment Centre for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, UK.
Innovation in Roads finalists are the NYS Route 17 at Exit 122, Wallkill, New York, US; the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) widening and reconstruction, Boone, McHenry and Kane Counties, Illinois, US; and the Stockholm Bypass, Akalla/Häggvik interchange design contract, Stockholm, Sweden.
The other categories include Innovation in Structural Engineering; Innovation in Rail and Transit; Innovation in Asset Lifecycle Information Management; Innovation in Asset Performance Management; Innovation in Collaboration Using i-models; Innovation in Generative Design; and Innovation in Geospatial Networks.
