D.R. Horton expands in US

American builder D.R. Horton has acquired the homebuilding operations of Breland Homes, which operates in Huntsville, Mobile and Baldwin County in Alabama and along the gulf coast of Mississippi.

The purchase includes 320 homes in inventory and 1020 finished lots. D.R. Horton will also control an additional 3700 lots through option contracts.

Ranked as the 38th largest building in the US, Breland closed 684 homes, equating to US$ 130 million in revenue, in 2011.

D.R. Horton claims to be the largest homebuilder in the US, completing 18302 homes in the twelve-month period ended June 30, 2012.
