Danish nuclear decommissioning a subject at World Demolition Summit

Søren Tscherning, son and current owner of the Danish demolition contractor founded by Georg Tscherning, has joined the list of speakers at the 2015 World Demolition Summit. At the event, he will discuss the experience gained by G Tscherning A/S during the nuclear decommissioning work it has carried out at the Risø research establishment near Roskilde, which was established in the 1950s to realise Niels Bohr’s vision of the peaceful use of nuclear energy for electricity production and other purposes. The site hosted three nuclear reactors but as in many countries, this form of power fell out of favour in the 1980s and 1990s, and the three reactors were shut down and are undergoing decommissioning. The site is now known as the Risø DTU National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy and is an institute under the Technical University of Denmark.

G Tscherning, which is celebrating 40 years of existence this year, is one of the largest demolition contractors in Denmark, having recently acquired two other leading Danish contractors, Brandis A/S and Villy C. Petersen A/S.

Now in its sixth year, the 2016 World Demolition Summit is again being held at the Krasnapolski Hotel in Amsterdam on November 6, 2015. The one day technical conference forms one element of the event, with the second being the presentation of the 2015 World Demoltion Awards, which close for entries on 31 July, 2015.

As such, the event is a leading annual opportunity to network with many of the leading figures active in the demoliton inustry from across the globe, hear about the latest trends and techniques being applied to the sector, and how some major demolition challenges were accomplished by some of the larger players in the market.
