David Phillips of Off-Highway Research will focus on Mongolia, Thailand, Myanmar and the Philippines in his presentation at the 2nd IRC conference.

David Phillips, managing director of UK-based Off-Highway Research, will use his presentation at the 2nd International Rental Conference (IRC) to shine some light on four Asian markets that offer long term potential for rental.

Mr Phillips, a world authority on construction equipment sales trends, will focus on Myanmar, Mongolia, Thailand and the Philippines, looking at sales of construction equipment, trends in equipment use, and the degree to which equipment rental has taken hold.

The conference takes place on 24 November in Shanghai, China, on the day before the Bauma China exhibition. See www.khl.com/irc for details.

“Much of the research that Off-Highway Research conducts focuses on the high volume markets such as North America, Europe, China and India”, said Mr Phillips, “But several times a year we look at some of the less developed markets in the more difficult parts of the world which are showing great growth potential, and which have been under researched and little understood in the past.

“The multi-client studies that we have done recently include Myanmar, Mongolia,Thailand and the Philippines, so I thought that a review of the main elements of these fascinating emerging markets might add some colour to the conference.”

Each of the four markets has its particular dynamic. Mongolia, for example, is in the midst of a boom in the mining sector, with several rental companies already getting established, such as New Gobi Rentals, Mongolia Equipment Rental Corp (a Hertz franchise holder) and Wagner Asia. Thailand, meanwhile, already has many equipment rental businesses, including several subsidiaries of major Japanese rental firms.

The IRC conference has high level speakers, including Masaki Kurita (President/CEO, Nikken Corp), Greg Parfitt (Executive General Manager for Sales and Specialist Business, Coates Hire), Zeng Guang'an (Chairman of Guangxi LiuGong Machinery and President of Guangxi LiuGong Group), Li Hua Bin (General Manager, Shanghai Jinheyuan Equipment Rental Co., Ltd.) and Lawrence Poh (CEO, Lei Shing Hong Machinery).

Conference sponsors are:

  • Gold sponsors: Genie (Terex AWP), XCMG
  • Silver sponsors: JLG, LiuGong, Sinoboom
  • Supporting sponsors: ATN, Haulotte Group, Ritchie Bros Auctioneers, Skyjack
