In the US the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration has taken delivery of 160 new davit cranes for material handling and maintenance on Nexrad weather domes.

The cranes, supplied by Allied Power Products, have 400 lb (181 kg) capacity Columbia AC mains wire rope hoists spooled with 115 ft (35 m) of 5/32 in (4 mm) wire rope. APPI claims the 25 ft/min (7.62 m) hoisting speed reduces the time to hoist materials to the working levels of the radar platforms by a factor of at least four.
