Pump manufacturer and rental company Xylem has been awarded a €120 million (US$ 160 million) loan by the European Investment Bank (EIB) for research, development and innovation activities in the water industry.

The R&D project supported by the EIB will concentrate on four areas: water and wastewater treatment solutions; flow control equipment; analytical instruments; and water applications and pump systems for residential, commercial and industrial uses.

Xylem aims to develop new innovative and sustainable products and services for biological water treatment, desalination, filtration and disinfection as well as improving the control of such processes.

The manufacturer’s R&D activities will also focus on the development of sustainable solutions, creating products with reduced energy consumption and that enable the increased re-use of wastewater.

Xylem will carry out the project in its R&D centres in Sweden, Germany, Italy, the UK, Austria, Norway and Hungary.
