Electric power for metal recycling

Dutch metal recycler Koster Metalen BV is now using a Sennebogen 850 R Electro to handle the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that the company specialises in recycling. Koster is a family-owned business that has been in existence for more than 80 years and recycles some 450,000 tonnes of metals every year and aims to achieve a recycling rate of 100% at its Bevervijk yard 20 km north of Amsterdam.
The 850 R was supplied through Dutch Sennebogen dealer Kuiken NV and was tailored specifically to meet Koster’s requirements. It features a 250 kW (336 hp) drive, offers a maximum reach of 21 m (69 ft) and a 5 m (16.4 ft) base extension that allows the machine to cover 1,400 square metres (15,070 square feet). Mounted on a crawler undercarriage with a track width of 4.9 m (16 ft), the machine is fitted with Sennebogen’s Comfort cab, which can be extended by 2.7 m (8.9 ft) to give a maximum viewing height of more than 10 m (33 ft) over the work area.
According to site manager Michel de Pagler: “"We anticipate lower operating costs and service costs, and a longer service life than comparable diesel machines can provide. We can handle minor maintenance tasks ourselves, thanks to the well-designed machine structure. For regular maintenance and spare parts supply we will rely on the service offered by Kuiken NV."
