European support for telematics standard

20 May 2014

Germany-based trade association VDBUM has agreed to support the expanded AEM/AEMP Telematics standard due for implementation soon.

Udo Kiesewalter at VDBUM Service, said, “We organised our VDBUM telematics committee in April to discuss our findings after our meeting with AEM and AEMP at ConExpo-Con/Agg. During this committee meeting, we intensively discussed Version 2.0 of the telematics data standard with our end-user members and OEMs equally.”

Kiesewalter continued, “From the OEM side, Liebherr, Wirtgen-Vögele, Caterpillar and Bauer were present. We are pleased to advise AEMP and that our committee supports the data points and the suggested frequency to be sent from the equipment asset to the full extent. Furthermore, we want to announce that Liebherr and Wirtgen-Vögele agreed to support Version 2.0 after the final end-user agreement is published by AEMP.”

The next step, Kiesewalter said, is to get in touch with the final version of the end-user agreement with the API for the technical implementation that will be distributed through AEMP. VDBUM wants to develop a business case for telematics with its scientific partner, the University of Munich- TUM, for end users.

Stan Orr, CAE, president and CSO at AEMP, said, “We are pleased with the commitment from VDBUM and their members to adopt the AEM/AEMP Telematics Standard for use in Europe and across all of their global operations. This is a major accomplishment for AEMP, AEM, and our industry as we make efforts to globalise and expand the standard. This would not have been possible without the joint efforts of AEMP and AEM, and each of our organisation’s leadership who have worked so hard to expand the reach of this standard.”

Orr continued, “AEMP and AEM continue to work closely regarding the release of a Version 2.0 beta so that OEMs can begin the process of getting it integrated into their telemetry programs. Our goal is to have a final version available for distribution in the 4th quarter of 2014.”

AEM is the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, a North America-based international trade group for the off-road equipment manufacturing industry. AEMP is the Association of Equipment Management Professionals, a group that supports heavy duty and off-road equipment management as a career. It represents fleet management professionals in construction, government, utilities, energy, mining and related industries. VDBUM is a trade advocacy group serving the European Union and global partners. Its focus is on construction, environmental and mechanical engineering.
