Joe joins Grant Styles (Erith Contractors, United Kingdom), Fàbio Bruno Pinto (Fabio Bruno Construções, Brazil) and Greg Mix (Kiewit/Manson, USA) in a high-profile line up for the international event, which also features the annual World Demolition Awards.

WDS 2019 takes place in Boston, USA, and the return to North America after a gap of three years is especially appropriate for Joe, who originates from Missouri but moved to South Africa in the 1980s.

Joe is a respected member of the demolition community with more than 30 years industry experience. He was a speaker at the European Demolition Association (EDA) convention in Vienna in 2018 and his company has won World Demolition Awards in both the Industrial and Explosive categories in the past two years.

Along with his wife Liz, he set up Jet from scratch and the company has established a reputation for executing safe demolition projects across Africa for large multinational organisations.

At Boston Joe will present on Demolition in Africa and his paper will include the following themes:

  • The socio-economic and political environment in developing countries
  • Client expectations and requirements
  • Logistical, operational and practical factors affecting large and complicated demolition projects
  • Experiences with social upliftment, temporary employment, skills transfer, and mitigation of risks.

The WDS, which takes place on October 23 and 24, is organised by D&Ri in co-operation with the National Demolition Association of the USA and with the support of the EDA. The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
