First jobsite for Terex Superlift 3800

Heavy lift and haulage company Steil Kranarbeiten puts its new Terex Superlift 3800 straight to work a wind park in Germany.

The 650 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler was used to erect Enercon E101 wind turbines at the Gödenroth wind farm in the Hunsrück mountain range. The 8,426 tonne-metre crane can erect 117 m wind turbines without needing the available superlift boom configuration, the company said.

For transport to site a total of 30 trucks, including four heavy goods vehicles, were used. The crane was configured with 138 m of boom with 12 m luffing jib and more than 305 tonnes of counterweight.

The two tower sections for the turbines weighed 56 and 58 tonnes. The 67 tonne nacelle was lifted to a height of 135 m.

René Perlich, Steil project manager and crane operator, said, “The advantages of the Superlift 3800 can mostly be seen in the significantly reduced weights of its individual components and in the fact that you need up to 100 tonnes less counter weight when setting up the long boom system. The new Terex crane’s design makes assembly incredibly easy and helped speed up the setup process.”
