Ford Trucks launch new tractor

12 October 2018

Ford Trucks has launched the F-MAX tractor, which has won the International Truck of the Year award at the recent IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, Germany.

According to Ford Trucks, the F-MAX is the result of five years of development and testing. The company said it has a 2.5-metre-wide cab that creates a sense of spaciousness but with all functions within easy reach.

The cab has 2160mm of floor-to-ceiling height and 260 mm of seat adjustment. It has airplane-style overhead storage and a 90 degree foldable upper bed.

Interior lightning can be controlled from the bed area and driver compartment. The door opening angle has three different levels, with water- and dust-proof steps to aid entry and exit.

The vehicle has what Ford Trucks describe as a “powerful and efficient 12.7L E6D Ecotorq engine” which it said enables the tractor to be offered at a very competitive price.

In addition, a 12-speed ZF automated transmission and different drive modes such as Eco-Mode and Power-Mode are designed to optimise fuel consumption. The new F-MAX also has a variable-geometry turbocharger, a water pump and compressor with multiple working speeds, and 400 kW of engine braking power which achieves 1000 KW total braking power with an optional intarder.
