25 April 2008

UK-based Foster + Partners has unveiled images of a new high-rise development in Calgary, Canada. The 247 m high tower, known as The Bow, will be headquarters to energy company, EnCana Corporation.

The CA$ 579 million (US$ 500 million) project is configured in the shape of a bow and, according to the developers, the building will set new standards in environmental sustainability in the region.

The of the crescent shaped tower reduces its wind load and the south-southwest orientation makes use of the sun to heat and light the building. Natural light and ventilation are expected to reduce energy consumption by -30% compared to a standard structure of this size.

Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2007, with work on the structure scheduled for completion in 2010.
