UK renter GAP Group has won a three-year contract valued at £8.2 million per year to supply equipment to Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) and its sister company Scotia Gas Networks (SGN).

The deal, which includes an option to extend by two years, consolidates the equipment rental supplier for the two power companies and extends into England SSE's use of GAP, which is based in Glasgow, Scotland.

SSE has been a GAP customer for five years and is the second-largest electricity utility in the UK and Ireland. It owns 50% of SGN, which operates two networks of 74000 km of gas lines that serve approximately 5.7 million customers.

Operational compliance manager for SSE, Keith Hay, said, "GAP has been a great supplier to SSE and SGN Contracting in Scotland over the past five years, and we have extended the reach of this contract to include the whole of the UK."

John Allison, major account manager at GAP, said. "Both SSE and SGN have been significant accounts for GAP in Scotland over the past five years...We are delighted to have secured this agreement and are looking forward to growing our relationship with such a high profile company".

GAP Group was established in 1969 and is one of the UK's largest independent construction equipment and tool rental companies.
