Hiab, part of Cargotec, has launched a new generation of loader cranes in Berlin as part of its 70th Anniversary celebrations.

The new series, the X Series, has four new models, the X-CLX 178, the X-DUO 178, the X-HIDUO 188 and the X-HIPRO 192. A main feature is a faster boom extension system, which Hiab said is almost twice as fast as its predecessor, the Hiab XS 166. The models also have increased lifting capacity and improved precision handling compared to previous models, the manufacturer said.

Further new designs on the model include safer and easier to use stabiliser legs with a new sensor system and a new joystick type remote control. Installation of the cranes has also been made easier and faster due to fewer mounting bolts.

The cranes were developed with input from customers and end users. They have been designed with durability, performance and ease of use in mind, a company spokesperson said.

Axel Leijonhufvud, Hiab president, said, “70 years ago we put the very first loader cranes on the market. With the launch of the X-series we will be writing a new chapter in the history of Hiab and I’m fully convinced that we will be setting a new standard for future loader cranes.”

Leif Törnblom, Hiab product manager for mid-range cranes, said, “Our customers work in very different sectors, with different demands on the cranes. However, regardless of the sector, crane operators want speed, precision and lifting capacity. We have therefore focused on improving these factors even more.”

Carl Gustaf Göransson, senior vice president and global head of sales and markets, added, “The new X Series will fulfil our goals. It is a benchmark for the loader crane industry.”

The new loader cranes will replace the existing Hiab XS 166. They will be available on the global market by the fourth quarter of 2013.
