Go ahead for Polish motorway work

The authorities in Lodzkie province, Poland, have given approval for work to begin on the Strykow to Tuszyn section of the A1 motorway.

The decision concerns section three, which will be 15.9 km long, and brings to an end the first of seven administrative procedures initiated by the General Directorate of National Roads & Motorways (GDDKiA), according to research company PMR.

It added that further permits for the project may be issued in the coming weeks. The undertaking as a whole will cost in the region of PLN1.16 billion (€282 million).

A section of the A2 Strykow to Tuszyn motorway, known as the Lodz eastern bypass, will be around 40km in total, and will run through Zgierz and Lodz East counties.

The work is being carried out by a consortium headed by Polimex-Mostostal, which was originally to have completed the project by the second half of 2013. However, the project has been delayed by nearly 10 months and the current deadline for completing the construction work is mid-2014.
