Grove works on glass factory

In Brazil, a Grove GMK6300L is helping construct a glass factory in the city of Goiana. Once completed it will be the largest glass factory and storage site in Brazil, and will produce flat glass for civil construction in the country.

The main contractor for the site is Recife-based company Codequip. The factory is being constructed for Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Planos (CBVP) and is being managed by Medabil Construction Systems, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

According to the contractor, a GMK6300L was chosen for its manoeuvrability and small footprint. Carlos Frederico Santiago de Freitas, commercial and operations director at Codequip, said, “This type of complex construction that involves great heights, heavy loads and tight working quarters needs a highly compact and versatile crane. The GMK6300L offered us precisely that, with a long boom and heavy-lift capacity.”

The crane lifts 300 tonnes and was configured with an 80 metre boom and 92 tonnes of counterweight. The crane has been used to lift columns and beams that measure 40 metre long and weigh 70 tonnes to heights of more than 100 metres. The GMK6300L has five outrigger positions and has Megatrak independent suspension and all-wheel steering.
