Haselsteiner resigns as Strabag CEO a year early

Strabag CEO Hans Peter Haselsteiner is to resign from the Austrian contractor at the company’s 14 June annual general meeting – a year earlier than previously planned.
Current deputy CEO Thomas Birtel will take the reins. The company said Mr Haselsteiner would continue to support the management board as an authorised representative in matters concerning the group’s internationalisation and strategic orientation.
Dr Alfred Gusenbauer, chairman of Strabag’s supervisory board, said, “On behalf of all employees and the supervisory board, I am grateful that Hans Peter Haselsteiner will remain with the company in another function. We believe that Thomas Birtel, who has been with the group for nearly twenty years, is perfectly prepared to continue to successfully shape Strabag’s future.”
The news comes after Strabag reported a 2% year-on-year decrease in output for 2012 to €14 billion.
