Turner Access has received the 2009 ‘Access and Scaffolding Specialist of the Year' award from Construction News magazine. It is the third time Turner, an access equipment manufacturer and services provider, has won the honour since the Specialist Awards' inauguration in 2005.

The Glasgow, Scotland-based company said this year's award recognises its provision of specific training and detailed guidance on safety. It said, "The judges recognised that safety and innovation are at the heart of Turner Access." A statement of the judges includes: "[Turner's] approach to developing safe systems of work has the potential to transform the industry in this high risk specialist trade."

Turner has worked with various industry groups and with the UK's Health & Safety Executive to identify causes of poor scaffolding practices and to implement remedies. It has developed and published guidance materials and provides specific training courses.

The Specialists Awards honour specialist construction contractors in the UK and are organized by the publisher of Construction News magazine.
