Hereford Quarries recycles 100% of inert waste with CDE wet processing plant

United Kingdom-based Hereford Quarries is recycling 100% of inert waste thanks to its new CDE wet processing plant.

Custom built by equipment manufacturer CDE, the wash plant was designed to recover quality-assured construction aggregates that comply with European specifications.

It produces washed and graded recycled sand and aggregates, including drainage stone, MOT Type 1 and 65F, and can processes more challenging material.

David Ambrose, Hereford Quarries commercial manager, said: “We are able to process much higher volumes and more challenging materials with the CDE plant compared to that which was possible with a mobile crusher and screen.

“The plant’s high capacity provides the opportunity to up-scale our operations and throughput as the market grows, while maintaining the high product quality.

Hereford Quarries said the wash plant supported its circular economy approach by helping to reduce its reliance on scarce natural resources.

With most primary aggregates being imported and carrying a high carbon footprint, the company said it also allowed it to respond to the market demand for more environmentally friendly products.

David said: “At present, we are diverting 120,000 t of construction and demolition waste from landfill annually. With the support of the CDE technology we are processing 100% of material that comes into the site and converting it into saleable product.”
