Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC) has set up subsidiary Hertz Equipment Rental China and began operations in July in Shanghai. The move, according to the US-based company, makes it “the first…global equipment rental company serving its customers worldwide”.

First rental offerings include access equipment, compressors and generators. The company said it will add cranes, excavators, rollers, and wheeled-loaders.

Gerry Plescia, HERC president, said, "Operating in China is critical to Hertz's overall strategy as it enables us to continue our geographical expansion while tapping into our diverse product line to service many of the growing industries in China..."

HERC said it targets multinational companies, large Chinese contractors, and state-owned enterprises in shipbuilding, refining, mining, and highway construction. The company has a national rental license and said it wants to partner with local entities for green field expansion.
