High speed forming: From military base to tourist attraction

Sentosa Island, on the south coast of Singapore, is becoming an important tourist attraction over for the city state. The former military basis is being transformed intoa sub-tropical picture book landscape with attractions such as beaches and hotels being built.

As part of this internationally renowned architect, Sir Norman Foster, was commissioned by the Millenia Hotel Group to design a new 6-star hotel complex with 110 generously-sized guest rooms and almost 60 ‘resorts’ in the five-storey main building as well as a number of villa-style holiday apartments, spots and leisure facilities.

Due to the short construction period, general contractor Tiong Seng, decided to use three 500 m2 Peri Skydeck systems to construct all of the reinforced concrete slabs. The systems comprise Peri's dropheads and Multiprop slab props, which provided the necessary flexibility to deal with ceiling heights ranging from 3.50 m to 6.50 m. The lightweight aluminium design and ease of assembly meant the formwork crews achieved a +30% productivity gain.

In addition to the Skydeck systems, Peri ST 100 stacking towers were used in the construction of the massive ceiling beams in the ballroom part of the complex.
