Huisman's Hybrid Boom Crane

Crane and offshore equipment specialist Huisman will carry out testing of its 900 tonne hybrid boom crane at the quayside of the Huisman China Production facility in Zhangzhou, China.

Originally named the Rope Luffing Knuckle Boom Crane, the model combines features of regular pedestal cranes and traditional knuckle boom cranes, including a low suspension point and reduction of load swing. In addition, it is electrically driven, has low noise levels, reduced maintenance and is fitted with a real-time heave compensation and shock absorbing system.

After testing, the crane is due to be shipped to Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. The crane will then be installed, commissioned and tested on board Subsea 7’s Seven Arctic.
