Hyundai and Hyundai Doosan to show ‘smart construction’ solutions

Concept-X is said to be the world’s first smart construction solution that successfully demonstrated the automation of the entire construction process, without any human intervention

Hyundai Construction Equipment and Hyundai Doosan Infracore will showcase their advanced smart construction solutions and future unmanned construction equipment at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022.

During the show, held from 5-8 January, 2022, the two businesses will promote their Concept-X project.

The project is said to enable a safe and efficient construction site based on unmanned and automation technologies and the ‘XiteCloud’, the first product that partially commercialised the technologies of Concept-X.

Hyundai Doosan Infracore CEO, Young-cheul Cho said, “Automated and unmanned machinery that applies advanced Information and Communication Technology, such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud, will be the future trend of construction equipment market.”

It was announced earlier this year that, following the purchase of Doosan Infracore by Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, an intermediary holding company called Hyundai Genuine (HG) had been set up to oversee both firms.

XiteCloud is a cloud-based platform that enables integrated management of construction sites. It provides a ‘digital construction platform’ that can analyse and plan 3D information and manage equipment efficiently in a cloud environment, and a ‘construction automation system’ that improves productivity and safety through automation of equipment.

The companies will also exhibit mock-ups of future construction equipment, including excavators, wheeled loaders, and dump trucks, and screen a video clip about the Concept-X project to introduce a future of automated and unmanned construction sites.

Concept-X measures and analyses the topography of construction sites by using 3D drone scanning devices and creates operation plans based on the topography data. It is said to be the world’s first smart construction solution that successfully demonstrated the automation of the entire construction process, from the measurement to the use of equipment.

It is expected that Concept-X will be commercialised by 2025.
