Schmidbauer, one of Germany's largest lifting and specialized transport contractors, has expanded its fleet by adding a 500 tonne capacity Terex Demag AC 500-2 SSL telescopic wheeled mobile crane. The eight axle crane has sideways superlift (SSL), 90 m luffing jib, 62.4 m fly jib and 180 tonnes of counterweight.

Managing director Werner Schmidbauer commented, “One of our company's specialty areas is installation in refineries and power plants. On these jobs we need a powerful machine with good manoeuvrability and the space-saving benefit of the Terex star-type outrigger. Another requirement for us involves excellent lifting capacities at steep boom positions.

“Immediately after delivery, the Terex Demag AC 500-2 will be put to work in the erection of a temporary bridge over the Main-Danube channel at Bamberg. From there it will proceed to Karlsruhe for use in the Miro refinery for several weeks.”

Schmidbauer, headquartered near Munich, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2007. Since its first lift in 1932 the company has developed into a leading Europewide heavy lifting specialist. In the lattice boom class, the fleet can lift up to 1,100 tonnes.
