The first meeting of the Committee on Demolition Engineering that has been established by the US Structural Engineering Institute, an arm of the American Society of Civil Engineers, is to be held at the Oregon Conference Center in Portland on April 22, 2015. The meeting will take place during the 2015 ASCE SEI Structures Congress.

According to the SEI, the purpose of the committee is to “improve the demolition industry by advancing engineering knowledge and practice through stimulating and guiding research in analysis, monitoring, testing and other activities, and to disseminate information and recommendations.”

It intends to solicit and publish technical papers that relate to demolition engineering, develop relevant technical sessions at SEI conferences, develop specialty conferences, prepare a guidance manual and produce committee reports. A full agenda for the meeting is to be released shortly
