Enerpac is building the world’s largest, offshore overhead gantry crane for construction of the Reunion Island offshore highway

Overhead gantry crane manufacturer Enerpac has been awarded a contract to build a 4,800 tonne capacity offshore overhead gantry crane.

It will be the largest offshore gantry in the world, the manufacturer said. It is being built for French consortium Bouygues Travaux Publics, Vinci Construction and Demathieu Bard Construction.

The crane will be used to install pre-cast viaduct columns for a new 5,400 metre coastal highway around Reunion Island, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The Route du Littoral coastal highway will connect Saint Denis with La Possession.

The 4,800 tonne lifting capacity Enerpac crane will be installed on a barge, built by the Bouygues Travaux Publics, Vinci Construction and Demathieu Bard Construction consortium, to construct the offshore highway.

Jeroen Naalden, Enerpac Integrated Solutions global director, said, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Bouygues Travaux Publics, Vinci Construction and Demathieu Bard Construction on this important infrastructure project. With a history of being involved in the Kursk salvage offshore, the Millau Viaduct construction and other significant heavy lifting operations, we have a growing reputation for excellence in bespoke heavy lift systems.”

Construction of the 4,800 tonne offshore crane has already started at Enerpac Integrated Solutions manufacturing facility in Hengelo, Netherlands.
