Leadership change at Mobile Mini

04 October 2012

Mobile Mini president, chief executive and chairman Steve Bunger is to leave the company at the end of the year. At the same time, non-executive director Mike Watts – who is also founder and executive chairman of Sunstate Equipment – will take on the role of Mobile Mini chairman.

Mr Watts has been a non-executive director of Mobile Mini since 2002 and its lead director since 2005.

Mobile Mini, which has a rental fleet of 235000 portable storage containers and office units in the US, UK and Netherlands, said it hoped to appoint a new CEO before the end of the year.

Mr Bunger leaves after almost 30 years with the company. He joined in 1983 and became vice president of operations and marketing in 1995 before becoming executive vice president and chief operating officer in the same year. He was promoted to president and CEO in 1997 and became board chairman in 2001.

During his time as CEO the company’s revenues grew from US$46.1 million to more than $364 million. It completed over 50 acquisitions during that period, including that of Mobile Storage Group in 2008.

Mr Watts said, “On behalf of the board of directors and all the executives and employees at Mobile Mini, I would like to thank Steve for his leadership as CEO for the last 15 years. Mobile Mini has achieved tremendous growth and success with Steve as CEO. We wish him well in his new endeavours.”

Mr Bunger said he had thoroughly enjoyed his career at Mobile Mini; “and [I] thank all the talented employees who have helped us become the leader in the portable storage industry....I will assist the new CEO when he or she is selected to ensure a smooth transition over the next several months.”
