Dalian Shipyard (DSIC Offshore) has ordered two Liebherr RL-K 4200-100 LIT ram luffing knuckle boom cranes.

The 100 tonne capacity cranes are for the new high-level semi-submersible BT 4000. They will be used for pipe-handling, supporting works and lifting goods from supply vessels to the platform, a spokesperson said.

The RL-K 4200-100 LIT has a foldable boom, which reduces sway and swing motions of attached loads, and will be equipped with ‘gripper yoke’ and ‘riser yoke’ load manipulators. In addition, the model has an updated version of the Liebherr Litronic control system, which allows digital control, storage and follow-up of all lifting data.

Gordon Clark, Liebherr sales director of offshore crane division, said, “We have already successfully delivered around 40 machines to DSIC to date, but this contract marks a new milestone for us at the Chinese offshore market.”

Li ShaoXue, Dalian Shipyard (DSIC) procurement director, said, “Using products of a well-known partner, such as Liebherr, is significantly reducing our technical and commercial project risk. This is certainly a priceless advantage that keeps our worries at the lowest level possible.

Currently, the cranes are being constructed at Liebherr’s facilities in the harbour city of Rostock, northern Germany.
