New Zealand’s Lyttelton Port of Christchurch has ordered four new straddle carriers from Liebherr Container Cranes, due for delivery mid-2013.

The port has chosen the Liebherr SC350T model, which will stack 1 over 2 high and is supplied with a 50 tonne twin lift spreader.

The straddle carriers will join a pair of Liebherr ship to shore cranes at the port and will be linked to a remote container tracking system, providing real-time information on the position and handling rates of containers within the terminal.

The order is the second that Liebherr Container Cranes has received from New Zealand for straddle cranes in recent months. The Port of Tauranga also ordered three Liebherr straddle carriers of similar configuration to the Lyttelton machines.
