Construction company Thai Obayashi has put three Liebherr tower cranes to work on the FYI Centre in Bangkok.

The FYI Centre is being developed by Golden Land Plc and was designed by Somdoon Architects. It will have two 12-storey office towers with a total office space of approximately 90,000 square metres and a 14-storey hotel tower with 239 guest rooms, a company spokesperson said.

On site at the time of writing in early February 2015 were a Liebherr 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronic luffing jib crane and two Liebherr 132 EC-H tower cranes. The three tower cranes were supplied by Liebherr’s Thai dealer STIT Company Ltd.

The 125 HC-L 6/12 Litronic has a 12 tonne capacity and lifts 1.9 tonnes at at the end of its full jib. The two 132 EC-H tower cranes have an 8 tonne capacity and a 55 m jib. The cranes are working on a confined site.

Teerapong Aiemprom, site engineer, said, “Our land area is 3.5 acres and is bound on one side by a flyover, on the opposite side by a narrow residential street, and to the front by the main road. We have been able to deploy the two high-top cranes so that their jibs are contained within the site, but it was necessary to have a luffing jib model for the third crane to prevent the jib slewing over a restricted area.

“The 125 HC-L has a very small slewing radius through 360 degrees and the jib can be raised from 15 through to 70 degrees, so within this tight area we can manoeuvre without overlapping the other cranes or the street.”

The three cranes were erected on site in November 2014. The first stage of the project is due for completion in the first half of 2016.
