Liebherr training crane

Sparrows Offshore Training Centre in Aberdeen, Scotland has invested in a Liebherr BOS 2600 for operation and maintenance training.
Weighing in at just under 100 tonnes and standing more than 45 m tall, the crane is mounted on a pedestal overlooking the disused and flooded Tyrebagger Quarry. It simulates the offshore crane operator's view of an offshore According to Liebherr the BOS 2600 is typical of the latest generation of computer-controlled offshore cranes being installed in the North Sea. “It represents the fourth generation of offshore cranes in terms of design and crane management systems, including crane system data recording. The crane itself and its systems are 100% identical to the machines Liebherr delivers to the offshore industry, except for some minor adaptations,” explains Wolgang Pfister, head of marketing at Liebherr-Werk Nenzing in Austria.
The crane had to be mounted on the existing onshore foundation, meaning the boom had to be shortened and its lifting capacity reduced from 50 tonnes to 10 tonnes.
The functionality and working speeds, however, were not compromised, Pfister adds.
