The 8th M&T Expo opened in São Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday at the city's Centro de Exposições Imigrantes exhibition ground. The event features 498 exhibitors over 110,000 m2 and is expected to be visited by 45,000 visitors.

According to M&T Expo organiser, the Brazilian Association of Technology for Equipment and Maintenance (SOBRATEMA), some BRL 1.2 billion (US$ 666 million) of business is expected to be carried out over the five days of the exhibition - +20% more than the last time the show was held in 2009.

It added that more than 1000 brands were represented at M&T Expo, covering equipment for earth moving and grading, paving, lifting, rock drilling, mining and other applications, as well as engines, undercarriages and other parts and components.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, SOBRATEMA president Alfonso Mamade said, "At the moment the economies of Europe and the United States are not so bright for our industry, so the eyes of the world are turning to emerging economies, especially Brazil, China and India."
