Netherlands-based Mammoet Maritime has acquired floating crane operator Barthel Schwimmkrane in Germany. Mülheim am Ruhr-based Barthel operates in the same sector, for example, installing river bridges on Europe's inland waterways. Germany alone has 6,600 km of navigable inland canals and rivers.

From 1 January 2011 the six personnel and equipment will operate as Mammoet Maritime GmbH. The Barthel fleet includes the 300 tonne capacity floating crane Atlas, the 200 tonne capacity sheerlegs Grizzly, and a pusher tug, Buffel.

Mammoet Maritime, part of international heavy lifting and specialized transport giant Mammoet, specializes in heavy transport and lifting in coastal and inland waters.
