UK specialist lifting solutions provider McGovern Crane Hire has taken delivery of its second Liebherr crane: an LTM 1060-3.1 wheeled mobile.

According to Liebherr, this model is proving popular thanks to its compact three-axle chassis and five-section main boom, which gives a maximum operating height of 48 metres. In the UK, Liebherr said the LTM 1060-3.1 can travel with all 12.8 tonnes of counterweight and a double fly jib and remain within STGO regulations.

McGovern Crane Hire has purchased a full-specification model, which means that it comes with Liebherr’s wireless remote control and VarioBase systems. Liebherr said the remote control means that all crane motions can be controlled from outside the cab to aid greater efficiency, provide a clearer view for the operator, plus help prevent communication errors between the operator and job site personnel. Liebherr said its remote control systems can also be shared between crane models.

The VarioBase system is a variable supporting base that Liebherr said ensures higher lifting capacities and a larger working range by allowing each individual crane support to be positioned arbitrarily. The crane’s work is controlled by the load moment limiter within the LICCON control which calculates the maximum load capacities precisely for this situation on the actual site. According to Liebherr, this prevents accidents by human error during both the setup and when hoisting loads. Liebherr said that the increased safety and ease of use takes the strain off the crane driver who can concentrate fully on the hoist.

Kieran McGovern, contract lifting manager at McGovern Crane Hire, commented, “We are very happy to be receiving our second new Liebherr crane. Our first Liebherr, the LTM 1040, has been an excellent machine over the past year and, with only the odd minor technical glitch, has been extremely reliable. This coupled with the impressive capacity of the LTM 1060 made the purchasing decision an easy one. Liebherr is always a pleasure to deal with and even though we are a relatively small company it always appreciate our business and really looks after us throughout the whole buying process and, more importantly, with excellent aftersales support. I can’t wait for our third machine, the MK 88 Plus, to be delivered in May.”
