Dubai: A consortium of Japanese contractors including Obayashi, Hitachi and Marubeni has won the AED 1.4 billion (US $390 million)contract to build a monorail on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai for property developer Nahkeel. The fully automatic, 5.4 km straddle-beam system with four stations, will be used by residents and visitors to the offshore island, also currently under construction, and is the first of several urban mass transit systems planned around the UAE.
