Crane manufcaturer Liebherr has announced an all-new 160 tonne capacity all terrain crane to replace the LTM 1160-5.1. The LTM 1160-5.2 was a surprise launch at the ConExpo construction equipment exhibition in Las Vegas, USA, from 4 to 8 March.

Major changes from its predecessor include a width reduction from 3 metres to 2.75 m and, instead of two engines, it is now a single engine design.

It has a 62 m six section telescopic boom and up to 93 m of lattice jib can be added.

The carrier mounted 400 kW diesel engine drives the hydraulic pumps mounted in the upper works via a mechanical shaft drive. This design was first shown on the 300 tonne capacity LTM 1300-6.2 telescopic hydraulic wheeled mobile crane that was new at the Bauma exhibition in Germany last April.

The five axle carrier has a 10 x 8 x 10 drive/steer configuration.

More details will follow as they become available.
